Intro

I commute regularly by bike, on two bikes: a cargo bike on which I carry two of my kids, and on a single-speed fixie.

Where to get a bike?

• Outspokin is a very nice place to find a good bike, but most importantly, good advices on how to fix or ride your bike.
• Andy Jordans have a lot of choices, and can easily order many replacement parts.
• OfferUp sometimes have second-hand bikes. The prices are all over the place, but there are some good occasions every now and then.
• Craigslist is pretty much the same as offerup, but with generally more worn-out bikes.

You can also find something on the cheaper side (but also of worst quality, most likely) at e.g., walmart or any major retailer.

How to ride?

As far as commuting, my advice are pretty standard I think:

• Wear bright clothes,
• Wear a helmet,
• Have front and back lights in case you ride after dark,
• Avoid large streets,
• Respect posted signage,
• Remember that Augusta can get very hot and humid (but there are showers at the GCC, they are just super well hidden!),
• Remember that Augusta can be hilly at places (more particularly if you ride to the Summerville Campus).

Drivers are generally nice to cyclist, but distracted sometimes, so always make sure you establish eye contact before riding in front of them.
