• Start by acknowledging the systemic bounds and understand your degree of latitude: the “performance funding metrics” of USG or the “Approved Software List” of Augusta University are not elements you can (easily) change.

  • Make sure your workstation will not ruin your health:

    • (re)Learn to (touch) type
    • Adjust the height of your screen
  • Practise universal design as much as you can, by communicating using multiple file formats and media.

  • Embrace structured procrastination: if a task is daunting, try to remain efficient by completing other tasks (this is how pandoc was born).

  • Leverage existing good practise, such as faculty peer review: you will learn in the process and possibly help colleagues through e.g. tenure and promotion.

  • Improve your browsing experience by trying to hide cookies pop-up and advertisement, for example using

    • a firefox add-on to remove cookies pop-up,
    • a firefox add-on to hide advertisement
